No Special Treatment for Durante after Linked in Yvonette Murder

PH Army will Give No Special Treatment for Durante After Link in Yvonette Murder

The Philippine Army said that they will not give Brigadier General Jes Durante special treatment after being linked in the Yvonette Chua Plaza murder.

Lt. Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr., head of the PAF, stated that the former Presidential Security Group chief, who is already in military detention, will not receive preferential treatment. Durante has been identified as the mastermind behind the 2022 murder of a model and entrepreneur in Davao City.

According to Brawner, the PAF does not accept any wrongdoings or illegal acts, regardless of military status, whether officers or enlisted people. Durante was fired as commander of the PA’s 1001st Infantry Battalion (IB) after his name was brought up in the investigation.

“So when we found out that there was a report like this and Gen. Durante was a person of interest, we immediately had a conference and then we decided to first remove him from his position as commander of the 1001st brigade so that the investigation would be impartial and thorough, that’s the SOP,” he said.

Based on the report, Durante and nine others have already been charged with Plaza’s murder by the Davao City Prosecutor’s Office. On December 29, 2022, Plaza was shot by a riding in tandem in front of a leased house in Green Meadows Subd., Barangay Tugbok, Davao City.
