On Saturday night, January 14, 2023 (January 15, PH time), Celeste Cortesi was unable to properly showcase her final evening gown at the Miss Universe 2022 pageant. Celeste bowed out from the contest before it ever began since she was unable to land in the Top 16.

Photos and videos of the 25-year-old beauty queen wearing her finals evening gown—a mermaid dress with a plunging neckline—have been making the rounds on social media for hours before the pageant even began.

The photos and videos were taken during the pageant’s final dress rehearsal, where the delegates were asked to wear the dresses they would use for the Miss Universe 2022 evening gown segment.

Celeste Cortesi’s gown was created by a Filipino fashion designer based in Los Angeles, Oliver Tolentino. Celeste’s evening gown for the finals was inspired by the same design as her prelims gown.

Celeste Cortesi wore her trademark color of blue, which stands for “Celeste,” the name her father chose for her and which, in Italian, means “heavenly.” As a tribute to her late father, it also had needlework details in butterfly patterns. She had hand-stitched each crystal onto her robe.

After being eliminated from the top 16 contestants, Celeste nevertheless carried herself proudly and entered the stage wearing the gown on the coronation night.

Jan Quijano, a Filipino makeup artist working in the United States, captured this scene and posted it to his Instagram page.

Another view of Celeste waving and throwing hearts to her fans was posted by the pageant fan site Sash Factor. She did, however, appear to be making a concerted effort to remain composed and not be emotional while leaving the Miss Universe stage.
