19 Filipinos Win Gold Medals from World International Math Olympiad in Thailand

19 Filipinos brought home gold medals in the World International Math Olympiad (WIMO) held in Bangkok, Thailand.

The three World Champions who topped their respective grade levels are first on the list of gold medalists. Alexandra Brianne Gochian (St. Jude Catholic School) is in charge of the Senior Secondary Group, Harvey James Dolar (Philippine Science High School – Main Campus) is in charge of the Secondary 3 Group, and Mateo Inigo Espocia (Genesis Christian Academy) is in charge of the Primary 5 Group.

Completing the elite pool of World gold medalists are Caiser Charleton Chua So, Skyler Ioan B. Uy, Linaiah Amethyst O. Flores, Lourd Gray M. Latido, Liam Spark Peña Palarca, Lineth Mikaela B. Muldez, Agatha Maria Eden O. Nunag, Skyler Ycaruz O. Flores, Zac Andre E. De Lara, Jenelle Nyka G. Lee, Princess Abbey Cziarah A. Aquino, Arwin Peter C. Castro, Evan Justin E. Panergo, Matt Raymond Ayento, Matthew Charles C. Carpio and King Stephen Chua.

Based on the report, the Philippines was represented by 178 delegates ranging in age from kindergarten to senior high school, and they received 52 silver and 67 bronze medals. The final round of three international math competitions, the Hong Kong International Mathematical Olympiad, the Thailand International Mathematical Olympiad, and the Guangdong Greater Bay Area Mathematical Olympiad, are only by invitation to WIMO.

Australia, Hong Kong, Bulgaria, Iran, the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, India, Myanmar, Cambodia, Azerbaijan, Sri Lanka, and Thailand are among the 14 countries that have qualified for WIMO this year. A panel of international experts created the WIMO test questions, which covered a variety of math topics such as logical thinking, arithmetic, number theory, geometry, and combinatronics.
