LTO Probes Reckless SUV who Plowed 13 Vehicles in Mandaluyong

LTO Will Conduct Investigation vs Reckless SUV Following Incident in Mandaluyong

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) will conduct an investigation against the reckless SUV that plowed 13 motorists in Mandaluyong City.

The LTO has issued a show cause order against the owner and driver of the SUV that crashed into multiple vehicles on One San Miguel Avenue in Mandaluyong City’s Barangay Wack Wack. On January 16, at 2:00 p.m., the owner of the SUV and the two suspected drivers would be taken before the LTO Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID) office in East Avenue, Quezon City.

The LTO also encouraged the two SUV drivers to give an explanation as to why they should not be prosecuted for Reckless Driving and why their driver’s license should not be revoked owing to being an Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle.

Based on the report of the Inquirer, the IID also ordered the driver’s licenses to be suspended for 90 days and surrendered while the inquiry is ongoing.

“Failure to surrender their driver’s licenses as required, any motor vehicle driven by them shall cause its impounding thereof,” said a one-page Order signed by IID Officer-in-Charge Renante Melitante.

The SUV slammed into 13 vehicles after first hitting a pole in the middle island, injuring an estimated thirteen drivers and passengers. This incident demonstrates the importance of not taking shortcuts when obtaining a license and registering a car, said LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Jose Arturo “JayArt” Tugade.

“Importante na ang mga kuwalipikadong drayber lang ang mabibigyan ng lisensya at na-iinspeksyon ng mabuti ang sasakyan kung roadworthy o ligtas at pasado sa pamantanyan para ito makabiyahe,” added the LTO Chief.
