Call Center Agent Jailed after Caught with Illegal Drugs worth P3.5M in Cebu
Police authorities arrested a call center agent after he was caught possessing illegal drugs worth P3.5 million in Cebu.
According to the Philippine News Agency, the call center agent was apprehended during a drug bust in Lapu-Lapu City. According to police, the suspect produced a total of PHP3.5 million worth of illegal material suspected to be shabu.
According to Lapu-Lapu City police head Col. Elmer Salado Lim, the suspect is Francis Belendes alias “Akang,” 35, of Barangay Capitol Site in this capital city. He also has an ongoing drug charge but was released on bond after his arrest on August 20, 2022.
He claimed Belendes was apprehended by members of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office’s City Drug Enforcement Section in Sitio New Terminal, Barangay Pajo after their intelligence unit placed him under intense monitoring.
“His arrest came due to our successful monitoring of her illicit activities. Accordingly, Akang was one of the personalities responsible for the distribution of illegal drugs in Cebu City and here in Lapu-Lapu, particularly in (barangays) Pusok, Pajo, and neighboring or adjacent barangays,” Lim said.
Based on the report, the police recovered 13 packs of a white substance suspected to be shabu weighing 500 grams with a street value of PHP3.5 million from Belendes’ possession. The suspect was employed by a business process outsourcing firm in the city in question.
He has also allegedly become an illicit drug distributor, able to dispose of at least 50 to 100 grams of shabu each week, according to Lim. As a result, Belendes would frequently take a “habal-habal” ride when distributing his illegal drugs across this city and Lapu-Lapu.
Belendes is additionally charged with breaching Republic Act 9165, the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, in addition to his previous narcotics case. He is now being held by Lapu-Lapu City police.
