PH’s Sofia Frank Wins Gold Medal in Asian Figure Skating in Indonesia

Philippines’ representative Sofia Frank takes home the gold medal in Asian Figure Skating tilt in Indonesia.

Sofia wins the gold medal in the senior women’s division at the 2022 Asian Open Figure Skating Trophy in Jakarta, Indonesia. In the short program and free skating portions, she received a total score of 143.97.

The Filipino-American figure skater earned 50.19 points in the annual competition’s short program and 93.78 points in the free skating category. Sofia expressed gratitude to the Philippine Skating Union and stated that participation in the tournament was a “wonderful experience.”

Sofia participated against 100 skaters from 12 countries at the Oasis Center Arena GC from December 7 to 9, 2022. Skye Chua, a fellow Filipino figure skater, came in seventh place out of eight skaters, based on the report.

Sofia had previously qualified as the country’s first female qualifier for the 2022 World Junior Figure Skating Championships after earning medals at the annual Colorado Springs Invitational and breaking multiple Philippine records in an international competition.

Bince Rafael Operiano, a chess prodigy from Albay, brought home a trophy, gold, silver, and two bronze medals from the 6th East Asia Youth Chess Championship. Gymnast siblings Elaiza and Karl Yulo won a total of 10 medals at the JRC Gymnastics Stars Championships in Thailand.
