Globe Telecom Speaks on Registration of Users of SIM Card Under them

GLOBE TELECOM – The telecommunication giant gave a statement on the mandatory SIM card registration which will start this December.

In the Philippines, it is now mandatory that people who are using SIM cards should register. President Bongbong Marcos has approved it into a law – the first law that the current Chief Executive signed as the country’s president.

The move to make SIM card registration mandatory is in line with the pursuit to reduce the incidents of scamming. In the recent years, there are a lot of people who were victimized by scamming by unknown individuals behind some mobile numbers.

While it many not totally eradicate incidents of scamming in the country, experts believe that making SIM card registration mandatory can cut down the number of incidents. The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) recently released the Implementing Rules and Regulations or IRR of the law.

Globe Telecom, one of the telecommunication giants in the Philippines, spoke on the implementation of the mandatory SIM card registration law in the country. The IRR stated that the implementation will start by December 27, 2022.

Based on a report on GMA News, Globe Telecom Inc. said that all new SIM cards to be distributed starting December 27 must be registered immediately so users can enjoy their services. With regards to existing SIMs, the Ayala-led telco giant said that users of existing SIM cards should register within 180 days or 6 months from the effectivity of the law on October 28 unless there is an extension.

In a statement, Globe President and Chief Executive Officer Ernest Cua said that they will continue their close collaboration with the government for the implementation of making SIM card mandatory in the pursuit to stop cybercrime. He stressed that it is the telco’s goal to make the registration process “seamless, secure, inclusive, and convenient” for the SIM card users.
