Rica Peralejo talked about her past showbiz stints
Celebrity vlogger Rica Peralejo admitted that she was regretful of her past roles when she had to be a “hubadera” in front of the camera.
Rica was a child star in the 90s. Then, she became part of teen-oriented programs, and eventually, she did movies in which she needed to show some skin. It was in 2001 when Rica started doing movies with this kind of them, based on the article in Abante.
She starred in Balahibong Pusa under Viva Films. It was followed by Sa Huling Paghihintay, Dos Ekis, Tatarin, and Hibla. In a recent episode of Surprise Guest with Pia Arcangel podcast, Rica Peralejo talked about her past showbiz stint.
She admitted that entering showbiz at the age of 12 and doing “hubadera” roles before had an effect on her. “From wholesome image, gumawa ako ng movies or I had to bare some flesh and all that. That takes away from the dignity of a woman,” Rica Peralejo said.
The celebrity vlogger said that deep within her, she would feel something bad while doing scenes in which she had to take off her clothes. Back then, she would tell herself that she needed to work and that she should continue working.
Rica was pushed to enter showbiz when her father’s fishery business was not able to continue after the Mount Pinatubo eruption.
She said that at that time, it was the moment that she was supposed to know about her body, to her wholeness. “Hindi siya puwedeng iniisip mo lang or emotionally stable ka lang. Dapat integrated, pati ‘yung physical. So siyempre may effect ‘yun sa akin,” she said.
However, deep within her, she was feeling different. “Pero deep down inside namamatay na ako, and I would cover it up with relationships, a whole lot of drinking, partying. It was a very difficult kind of life. Hindi naman ako normal na bata na nag-e-eskuwela lang, tapos sinasabi ng magulang na ganito. Ibang iba ‘yung buhay ko,” Rica Peralejo.
Later on, Rica decided to leave showbiz and finish her college degree. She married her husband Joseph Bonifacio in 2010 and they have two children.

This confession will allow women to really make an informed assessment of the long term effects of short term choices, especially those choices that goes against the very core values of their beings. You are right about losing your dignity as a woman in the process of baring your body as people reduce you to a mere object whenever they watch those movies. But take heart, nobody is laughing at you, nobody looks down on you, sure, people continue to see those pictures of you in their mind, but it doesn’t define you. You did what you did given your circumstances to survive the best way you know how and nobody can take away your dignity as a human being for that.
