Vhong Navarro and Deniece Cornejo will face each other in court next year
The trial of the rape case filed by model Deniece Cornejo against It’s Showtime host Vhong Navarro will start in February 2023.
Deniece accused Vhong of raping her on Jan. 17, 2014, inside her condominium unit in Taguig. The actor-host surrendered to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in September after a warrant of arrest with no recommended bail was released against him.
On December 6, Vhong was allowed by the court to post P1 million bail after the judge saw the inconsistencies in Deniece’s statement. The actor cried when he saw the court’s decision for his temporary freedom.
His camp was hoping that he would be released temporarily this holiday season. Vhong Navarro’s wife, Tanya Bautista said that this is a blessed Christmas for their family.
In a report from Manila Bulletin, it was said that Vhong Navarro’s rape case trial will start next year in February and will probably be held until 2024. This legal battle will probably last for 21 months.
On Feb. 16 next year, which is going to be the first trial date, the judge ordered the prosecution to present the evidence-in-chief. 12 other dates were cited from March 9, 2023, up to April 11, 2024. During this period of time, the prosecution will present its evidence or one hearing per month.
Starting May 16, 2024, and on five other dates with the last one on Nov. 14, 2024, the camp of Vhong will present their evidence.
The Kapamilya star and his legal counsel have kept on denying that he raped Deniece. Last July, the Court of Appeals revived the case when it ordered the Taguig Prosecutor’s Office to file cases of rape and acts of lasciviousness against Vhong Navarro.
