Group Appeals for P33k Minimum Salary for Gov’t Employees

Courage Group Requests to Make the Minimum Salary of Gov’t Employees P33k

A group appealed to the government for a P33k minimum salary for all employees working in government bodies.

To raise the nation’s minimum wage, the Confederation for Unity, Recognition, and Advancement of Government Employees (Courage) petitioned the government. Santiago Dasmarias, the president of Courage, stated that the low pay is a result of the high cost of products and services in the nation.

P33k Minimum Salary

According to a survey by the non-profit IBON Foundation, a family of five should make P1,119 per day in order to live comfortably. However, it claimed that the inflation or increase in the price of goods and services was slower because the calculation was done in September.

“Last month, the inflation rate reached 7.7 percent while the salaries of government employees, especially those in low positions, are still low. That’s why we call: Across the bureaucracy, everyone should be equal,” Dasmariñas said in an interview.

The lowest-paid government post currently earns P12,517 per month, and according to him, local government employees make much less. Additionally, courage demanded the regularization of contract employees.

Rep. Ferdinand Gaite of the Bayan Muna Party list said that it’s crucial to offer individuals making minimum wage the largest portion of salary increases. He lambasted the SSL for giving the highest raises to the officials making the highest salaries. Gaite claimed that in the modern world, it is difficult to subsist on the P12,000 minimum salary.
