The incident took place on November 16 during the 120th founding anniversary thanksgiving and awarding event for DepEd Tarlac. The sun struck her in the face as she was addressing to the audience from the side of the stage.

The former president’s daughter apologizes as she moves to a platform without the vice president’s office seal. She said that she had neglected to put on sunscreen.

“Sorry. I’m sorry, excuse me, hindi ako naglagay ng sunblock,” says Duterte eliciting laughter and cheers from the audience.

It may be quirky and endearing to some, but for others, it was disheartening since it revealed how the VP’s priorities were out of order. On Twitter, her legitimacy as the Philippines’ vice president was questioned by several online users. Some people could relate to her shenanigans.
