Netizens Call for Ban vs VP Sara Duterte for Punching Sheriff

Netizens Also Urged to Ban VP Sara Duterte for Punching Sheriff During Mayor Term

Concerned netizens also called to ban Vice President Sara Duterte for punching a sheriff during her time as a Davao City Mayor.

On Twitter, some users appear to be equating what happened to John Amores, a player for Jose Rizal University (JRU), with what Vice President Sara Duterte did to a sheriff. The athlete was suggested to be suspended for his unprofessional actions by Senator JV Ejercito.

Sen. JV Ejercito stated in a post that Amores shouldn’t be allowed to play in the league on a long-term basis due to his outbursts at the opposition side. He also stressed how Amore’s behavior on the court left the youngsters with a negative impression.

“John Amores should be banned for life in any basketball league. What he did on court in an NCAA game is a bad impression on our youth.” said Ejercito.

However, some online users discussed the issue with Duterte, who is believed to be Ejercito’s ally. Internet users asked the senator if they could also expel Vice President Sara for hitting a sheriff while she was mayor of Davao City.

“Agreed and for public servants mas mataas po dapat standard natin diba so eto din dapat i-ban din,” @truff007 said on reply to the post of Senator JV.

“Eh yung mayor dati na nanapak ba’t hindi na-ban for life? Naging VP pa nga. Selective. Rule doesn’t apply to those in power, no?” @CestTopLavie asked.

Sara Duterte Punching Ban

It may be recalled that Duterte made news in 2011 while still serving as mayor of Davao City when she confronted the court sheriff who wanted to continue demolishing homes in a barangay within the city. Duterte requested the sheriff to delay the demolition because of the inclement weather that day, but the sheriff insisted, infuriating the mayor.

Duterte admitted in an interview that she regretted something he had done to the sheriff. She claims that what she did was embarrassing and that she has promised it won’t happen again.
