Wife of Delivery Rider who Died while Resting Sends Message to Risa Hontiveros
The wife of the delivery rider who allegedly died while resting on the sidewalk pens a message to Senator Risa Hontiveros.
Senator Risa Hontiveros received a letter from the wife of deceased delivery rider Noel Escote. This occurred following the release of a statement by Hontiveros, in which she questioned the supposed disrespect of the company where Escote works.
It can be recalled that after several hours of work, pictures of Escote laying on his motorcycle and dead by the side of the road became popular on social media. The fatal accident of a Lalamove delivery rider seems to serve as a reminder to push for increased protection for these kinds of workers.
Jennifer Bocboc requested in her letter to Hontiveros that the senator assist them in receiving proper care from the aforementioned company. In the aforementioned letter, Bocboc stated that despite his husband’s poor health, he persisted on traveling on the day of his passing.
Ngunit wala po kaming narinig o nababasang anumang pahayag mula sa kanila,” said Bocboc in her letter.
Hontiveros claims that because riders are “independent contractors,” they are not entitled to the same perks as employees. She continued by pleading with the audience to support the POWERR ACT in order to defend delivery riders like Escote.
