Gen. Gerald Bantag Warns PBBM Against BuCor officer-in-charge Gregorio Catapang

Suspended chief of Bureau of Customs (BuCor) General Gerald Bantag warned President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr against officer-in-charge Gregorio Catapang Jr.

The persons around him, including Gregorio Catapang Jr., a former chief of staff for the AFP, heard Bantag issue a warning to President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. Bantag identified the current officer in charge of BuCor as the putative beneficiary in the event of his permanent dismissal.

“Kailangan maging watchful ka, Mr. President dahil baka ‘yan magiging downfall mo,” Bantag warned.

“Hindi niya ba alam na si General Catapang ay miyembro ng RAM na nagpatalsik sa kanyang tatay niya noon? Hindi niya ba alam na si Catapang eh nilagay ‘yung mga kwestiyonable ngayon doon sa BuCor,” he added.

In the meantime, suspended BuCor Director-General Bantag stated that he would rather die than be imprisoned. In an interview with Anthony “Ka Tunying” Taberna, he declared that he would not permit himself to serve time in prison for his role in Percy Lapid’s death.

He claims that he is aware of the fact that he won’t be in the cell for very long due of the numerous individuals he has clashed with as a result of his strictness with BuCor. He emphasized that he would prefer to fight the government until he died to imprisonment.

“Ipapahintulot ko bang makulong ako? P*tayin na lang ninyo ako kasi alam ko ang mangyayari sakin. Magp*p*tayan na lang kami ng gobyernong ito,” he said.

Bantag is confident that he will be identified as the person responsible for what happened to Lapid because he was the only one among the 160 people of interest that the authorities mentioned. He claimed that the press conference given by the DILG, where they identified the “middleman” who later passed away, was incorrect.

One of the things Bantag revealed was that he reportedly accepted money from various people in order to “assist” him keep the peace in BuCor. The general denied that anything was given in exchange for helping him.
