Tropical Storm Paeng: Lahar Advisory For Mayon Volcano

Phivolcs issues an advisory for possible lahar flow amid Tropical Storm Paeng onslaught.

TROPICAL STORM PAENG – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology releases lahar advisory.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) issues a lahar advisory for Mayon Volcano amid tropical storm Paeng’s onslaught, on Friday, October 28. Phivolcs warned about lahars and muddy run-off which may occur in rivers and drainages of Mayon Volcano in Albay amid the storm with an international name: Nalgae.

According to the updates, Paeng will bring “heavy to intense with at times torrential rains” over Bicol Region and Eastern Visayas. This will last until the morning of Saturday, October 29.

According to the advisory, heavy rain may “generate non-eruption lahars along river/stream channels draining the Mayon edifice”.

“Potential lahars and sediment-laden stream flows may occur along the Miisi, Binaan, Anoling, Quirangay, Maninila, Masarawag, Muladbucad, Nasisi, Mabinit, Matan-ag, and Basud, Bantayan Channels in Albay province,” Phivolcs added in its issued advisory.
