Nephew of Isabela Mayor Arrested in an Illegal Drugs Buy-Bust Along with Friends
Police authorities arrested the alleged nephew of a Mayor in Isabela over illegal drugs called ‘marijuana’ along with his friends.
The suspected nephew of the mayor of Isabela was taken into custody during the buy-bust operation by members of the Regional Drug Enforcement Unit-RID NCRPO in Manila. The suspects Paul Garcia and Ivan Joe Nalog were found to be in possession of nine “UPOs” or packages of dried marijuana leaves, which were valued at around P1 million.
The suspects arrived at the bus terminal at the intersection of Earnshaw Street and Lacson Avenue in Sampaloc, Manila, from the province of Isabela with two bags each holding nine packages of marijuana. Due to measures, Garcia and Nalog did not arrive at the buyer for several hours.
The deal continued with the poseur buyer, who they were unaware was an operative of the RDEU-NCRPO, after the two had received assurances. Thus, as soon as the other agents received the signal, the suspects were taken into custody.
Based on the report, the transaction entailed several kilos of marijuana, but Garcia and Nalog were unable to deliver it, according to the team commander of the operations. In an effort to get away from the RDEU agents, the suspects even made an influence move by revealing the name of an alleged uncle who is the mayor of Isabela.
The suspects’ connections to the unnamed mayor are now being confirmed by the RDEU-NCRPO. Authorities are currently putting together the case that will be brought against the defendants for breaking RA 9165.
