Newly Freed Man Arrested Again for allegedly Cooking Dog Meat in Davao City

Police authorities arrested a man who was newly freed from jail after allegedly being caught in the act of cooking dog meat in Bunawan, Davao City.

A man who was just released from jail was detained again by Davao police after he killed a dog and attempted to devour it. The suspect was identified as Dominador Dawat, a construction worker of legal age, according to the report.

The authorities also learned that he had recently been released from prison following a murder case. A habal-habal motorist called the Bunawan Police and reported the incident when he witnessed the culprit killing the dog,

The butchered dog was discovered by the Bunawan Police’s Animal Welfare Enforcement Team while searching the suspect’s residence. Police Major Robel Saavedra, the head of the Bunawan Police Station, claims that after the meat was examined, a dog’s identity was established.

As a result, the suspect was immediately arrested and brought to the police station. The report added that the suspect was accused of breaking Republic Act 10631, also known as the Animal Welfare Act.

Saavedra forewarned that violators will face a fine of no more than Php 250,000.00 and a sentence of one to two years in prison. The public is advised by the government to report such incidents so that prompt action can be done.
