Bong Go Commends Public Lawyers for Their Free Legal Services to Filipinos
Senator Christopher “Bong” Go commended all public lawyers for their free legal services to ordinary Filipinos.
Go recognized the compassion of the nation’s public attorneys and swore to fulfill his promise to all destitute Filipinos to offer free legal services. In Pasay City, at the 7th Mandatory Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) Accredited National Convention Public Attorney’s Day, Go presented the complimentary presentation.
“Karangalan ko po ang maimbitahan sa pagtitipong ito kasama ang mga magigiting na abogado ng Public Attorney’s Office na napakahalaga ang papel sa pagtiyak ng hustisya para sa karaniwang Pilipino. Saludo ako sa inyong lahat sa pagpili ng landas ng serbisyo publiko sa kabila ng mga mabibigat na hamong dulot nito,” said Go.
“Isang importanteng haligi ng isang malusog na demokrasya ang pagkakaroon nito ng isang fair at inclusive na justice system. Dahil dito, masisiguro ng demokratikong bansa na ang katarungan ay hindi lamang para sa mga mayayamang mamamayan na ito kundi para sa lahat,” he added.
In order to act as the main government organization offering free legal assistance to Filipinos in judicial and quasi-judicial procedures who are in financial need, the Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) was founded.
The senator emphasized PAO’s important contributions to society, adding that if citizens can rely on their government to uphold justice in their circumstances, they will also have faith in it.
“Kayo po ang nagsisiguro na ang katarungan sa ating bansa ay para sa lahat ng mga Pilipino. Ganyan po kahalaga ang inyong mandato. Ipinaglalaban ninyo ang karapatan ng tao at hustisya kahit walang pambayad,” said the lawmaker.
Reaffirming his support to all PAO lawyers, Go urged them to remain committed to helping their fellow Filipinos, upholding the law, and upholding justice. Go in his statement added that it is important that PAO receives adequate funding to ensure that they can perform their duties and improve their services.
“Susuporta po ako sa mga panukala na makakatulong po sa mga mahihirap, hindi sila mapabayaan. So itong mga PAO lawyers na ito, ito po ‘yung nakikipaglaban sa korte. Susuporta po ako sa kanila sa abot po ng aking makakaya bilang senador at bilang miyembro po ng Justice Committee sa Senado,” said Go.
Meanwhile, PAO recognized Go as one of the outstanding senators of the year. Former President Rodrigo Duterte was also awarded as an outstanding president. Go assured that he will continue to serve Filipinos to the best of his ability, saying that valuing their welfare is his sworn duty as a public servant.
