Man Arrested for Selling Sim Cards Will Alleged Verified GCash Accounts
Police authorities arrested a man for allegedly selling sim cards with verified accounts from cash app GCash.
A man in Caloocan who was found selling Globe and TM SIM Cards with verified GCash accounts has been denounced by the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC). According to the report, the suspect was captured during an entrapment operation.
The suspect was caught selling 556 SIM cards with verified GCash accounts, according to a statement. According to the NTC, the suspect purchases SIM cards online for P350 and resells them for P600 each.
According to Globe, fraudsters are using these accounts to circumvent e-wallet constraints in order to, among other things, play online games. The National Telecommunications Commission, the Philippine National Police, the National Bureau of Investigation, and Globe worked together to make the arrest,
GCash Chief Legal Officer Maricor Adriano said individuals who sell SIM cards with GCash registrations encourage crime by helping perpetrators of fraud. The suspect is facing charges for the violation of Sec. 4 of the Republic Act 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act which states that the misuse of devices is a cybercrime offense.
Stakeholders, regulators, and law enforcement personnel are collaborating to stop the spread of SMS-linked spam, which has become increasingly personalized. GCash Chief Risk Officer Ingrid Berona reassured the public that their funds and data remain “safe and secure.”
In connection with this, the SIM card registration bill was recently adopted by Congress on second reading as a means of preventing text frauds using the user’s name to promote false job offers, phony lucky winners, and other money-making schemes. The SIM card registration act is one of the Senate’s top priorities, according to Sen. Grace Poe, chair of the Senate Committee on Public Services.
