Marawi Siege Victims Rejects Gov’t Free Housing for Allegedly Being Substandard
Some victims of the Marawi Siege allegedly refused to live in the free housing of the government for being ‘substandard’.
The government free housing for some Marawi City inhabitants who lost their homes in the battle that occurred in 2017. According to Gov. Mamintal Adiong Jr.’s interview, the recipients refused the homes the government built for them because they were “substandard.”
“Ang problema dito yung mga housing, hindi lang masyadong maganda ang pagkakagawa. Yung mga binibigyan, kusa nilang ina-award yung mga bahay na yan, mga nanggaling sa Ground Zero, hindi sila tumutuloy diyan dahil hindi maganda ang pagkakagawa….Substandard,” said Adiong Jr. in the Teleradio interview with him.
Adiong claims that aside from the poor water quality, there is no water supply in the neighborhood where the victims’ homes were built, which is why they are no longer inhabited. No one wants to live there, he continued, even though there are plenty of houses and buildings there, if there is no water.
The affected residents, according to the governor, preferred to reconstruct their destroyed homes. Ziaur-Rahman Alonto Adiong, who represents the first district of Lanao del Sur, likewise made this objection and disputed the claim that Marawi City’s restoration is 98% complete.
“There are still some areas in Marawi- walang tubig… wala pang cables, di pa magamit… no power supply. How can you expect people to return if there are no basic services?” said the congressman.
