Some Soft Drink Plants Halt Operations Due to Shortage of Premium Refined Sugar
SUGAR SHORTAGE – Several soft drink plants in Bohol and Iloilo have suspended their operations due to the shortage of sugar.
Over the past few months, the rising prices of sugar products becomes one of the major problems in the country. Filipinos will feel the pinch of surging prices of sugar through ‘ber’ months.
The country even experienced a shortage in the supply of premium sugar. Various soda makers find it difficult to look for premium refined sugar, which is necessary for making soft drinks.

On Friday (September 16, 2022), various soft drink companies in the country announced the temporary suspension of their operations due to the shortage of bottlers’ grade sugar supply.
The Coca-Cola Philippines bottling plants in Tagbilaran City, Bohol, and in Pavia, Iloilo were among the companies that halted production due to the sugar crisis.
“This Coca-Cola plant has suspended bottling operations due to the lack of supply of bottlers grade sugar as a result of the ongoing sugar crisis,” the company said.

Soda companies including Coca-Cola Beverages Philippines Inc, Pepsi-Cola Products Philippines Inc, and RC Cola maker ARC Refreshments Corp said that the industry is facing a shortage crisis in premium refined sugar.
Softdrink makers were using premium refined sugar as the main ingredient in making soda and other sweetened beverages.
