Some professional basketball players made a great name in the field of sports. One of them is basketball legend Michael Jordan.

Personal Background

Born on February 17, 1963 at Cumberland Hospital in Fort Greene in New York City. He is the son of James R. Jordan Sr., a bank equipment supervisor, and Deloris Jordan, a bank employee. In 1968, their family transferred to Wilmington, North Carolina. He enrolled at Emsley A. Laney High School where his athletic excellence started shining as he played basketball, football, and baseball. When he was a sophomore, he tried joining a varsity team but he was not chosen because he was shorter then.

The rejection only encouraged Michael Jordan to do even more in his sports. He became part of Laney’s junior varsity team – its star who tallied 40-point games. He started winning prestigious recognitions in the field of basketball. He has played as part of the NCAA All-American First Team.

Basketball Career

It was in 1984 when Michael Jordan’s professional career in basketball started. He was part of Chicago Bulls and scored 16 points on his first game. He continued playing and the people started seeing bigger potentials in him with his skills – there were already hints that he is a star in the field.

Jordan played for Chicago Bulls in his basketball career with only 2001-2003 that he played for Wizards. In 2003, he retired from playing and he received a 4-minute standing ovation after his last game.

Family

Michael Jordan married Juanita Vanoy in 1989 but they separated in 2006. In 2013, he remarried and officially tied the knot to Yvette Prieto. The basketball legend have five (5) children – Victoria, Marcus, Ysabel, Jeffrey Michael, and Jasmine.
