Poblacion Girl Pleads Guilty for Skipping Mandatory Quarantine, Fined P20k

Gwyneth Anne Chua alias Poblacion Girl will be fined P20,000 after she pleaded guilty for skipping mandatory quarantine.

On Monday morning (September 5, 2022), Makati City Metropolitan Trial Court Branch 128 Judge Maureen Rubio-Marquez faced Gwyneth Anne Chua who is accused of violating Republic Act 11332 or the “Mandatory Reporting of Notifiable Diseases and Health Events of Public Health Concern Act”.

According to Assistant City Prosecutor Rafael Rodrigo Esguerra, when asked to enter a plea, she said “guilty”. Esguerra revealed that Chua even apologized for the hassle she caused for violating the quarantine protocols.

Chua refused to give any statement to the media, who were only permitted to remain outside the courthouse. Her attorneys also choose not to speak. However, Esteban Gatbonton, a security guard, initially filed a not guilty plea to the charge, therefore the prosecution against him will go forward.

Gatbonton who is working as a security guard at Berjaya Hotel allegedly help Chua to escape from the quarantine facility. Initially, Chua’s boyfriend Rico Atienza and parents; Allan and Gemma were included in the complaint.

Last December 23, 2021, Chua was seen partying in Poblacion, Makati just 2 days into her mandatory quarantine at the Berjaya Hotel after arriving from the US. Eventually, she tested positive for COVID-19 and fifteen of her contacts have been infected.

Due to the incident, Chua goes viral and earned negative feedback from the online community. She also earned the moniker “Poblacion Girl”.
