What are humanism examples and understanding the humanism concept?
HUMANISM EXAMPLES – There’s a concept about the quality of being human that is called humanism and here are some samples.
American Humanist Association defined humanism as “a progressive philosophy of life that, without theism or other supernatural beliefs, affirms our ability and responsibility to lead ethical lives of personal fulfillment that aspire to the greater good”.
Simply, the concept puts more value on the significance of human factors rather than religious, divine, or spiritual matters. In its history, the theory was heavily influenced by theorists Abraham Maslow and Carl Rogers.
Abraham Maslow also described the hierarchy of needs in his work “A Theory of Human Motivation”. During the 1950s, Maslow and other psychologists gathered together and talked about this matter. They have come up with and agreed with the idea that self-actualization, creativity, and individuality are related to this.
Humanism stresses human values and dignity. It puts focus on helping other people to live well, achieve personal growth, and do other things to make this world a better place.
Here are some examples:
- Treating other people with empathy.
- Helping someone build his or her self-esteem by focusing on their strengths rather than their faults.
- Encouraging people to focus on the good side of their lives.
- Make an effort to know and understand someone who you think has a different perspective on something.
- For parents, it is helping their child reach their potential and setting a role model on how to be respectful to all people despite their differences.
There’s a humanistic approach to everything where the good in human behavior is being stressed including the things that make a human feel worthwhile and the things that make them unique.
