Typically, a marching band is composed of snare, tenor, bass drums, and cymbals. On standard, it has four to 48 members. The one who leads the band is called the conductor and he uses a conductor stick. With his every movement, the band follows.

The lyre section of the band is the one that creates a melody. The drum section is made of snare drums, multiple tenor drums, and bass drums. Sometimes, instruments like tambourines, woodblocks, triangles, and maracas are also added in this section.

Here are the non-tuned instruments:

  1. Snare Drum – played by striking wooden sticks on either side of the drumhead to create rhythm or various sounds.
  2. Tenor Drum – a set of four to six drums in various sizes and each size produces a different sound.
  3. Bass Drum – it is played by using a heavy and covered mallet and each strike creates a low sound.
  4. Cymbals – this instrument is a pair of round and thin metal plates played by clashing them to each other.

Here are the tuned instruments:

  1. Bell Lyre – the main instrument which is consisted of metal bars that are tuned in a chromatic scale.
  2. Glockenspiel – this instrument is also called orchestra bells that have a higher pitch than a xylophone played with wooden plastic mallets.
  3. Vibraphone – it has a sound like a bell and the sound is produced by using a mallet.
