MMDA Allows Usage of “Wang-Wang” & Blinker During Emergency

“Wang-Wang” & Blinker Allowed to Use During Emergency, MMDA Says

WANG-WANG & BLINKER – MMDA has allowed the government vehicles to use “Wang-Wang” and blinker during an emergency.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority announced that government vehicles will be allowed to use ‘wang-wang’ and blinkers during emergency operations. However, private vehicles are still prohibited to use such staff.

MMDA Officer-in-Charge Baltazar Melgar has already discussed the matter with the Highway Patrol Group, Land Transportation Office, Land Transportation Franchising, and Regulatory Board. The joint forces will strictly implement the measure.

Melgar explained that government vehicles really need ‘wang-wang’ and blinkers when responding to an emergency such as a life-or-death situation.

“Pero yung mga government kasi napagkasunduan namin, katulad sa MMDA, pagka gagamitin sa operation yung sasakyan na merong wangwang at blinkers ay pwede gamitin,” Melgar said.

The official also said that HPG will be the one to decide whether to apprehend a government official using a siren and blinker.

Blinker

“Ganoon din sa ibang ahensya kung meron silang emergency, pag emergency talaga siguro sa kanila na lang yun eh, kanilang ano kung emergency talaga yung kanilang pupuntahan eh,” Melgar said.

It can be remembered that the administration of late President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III prohibit the use of Wang-wang and blinker. It prevents giving VIP treatment to individuals without emergency purposes.

What is wang-wang?

It is a system of the privileged who demand VIP treatment, put sirens on cars to cut through the traffic, and generally try to cut corners for their own personal convenience.
