DOH Says Metro Manila Showed “Sharp Rise” in COVID Cases

DOH Speaks on Increase of COVID-19 Cases in Metro Manila

DOH – The Department of Health said that Metro Manila showed a “sharp rise” in the cases of COVID-19 and the rest of Luzon and Visayas also increased.

The Philippines’ fight against the COVID-19 pandemic is not yet over. In fact, many countries across the globe are also in the same battle still. The World Health Organization (WHO) previously warned nations that the pandemic is not over anywhere if it is not over somewhere.

The pandemic pulled the economies of several nations down, closed businesses, and made financial challenges get to the household or individual levels. But the worst impact is the loss of millions of lives across the globe. Nations conducted a vaccination drive to fight the spread of the virus. Several restrictions and health protocols were also made mandatory.

In the Philippines, the wearing of face masks in public areas is mandatory. Malacañang previously reiterated that the order of the President is clear regarding the mandatory wearing of face masks in public areas.

The Department of Health also continuously reiterates that the practice of the minimum health protocols must be continually observed. DOH previously spoke about the possibility of raising the alert levels in case an area in the country would experience a significant increase in its COVID cases.

Recently, based on a report on ABS-CBN News, DOH said that it recorded a “sharp rise” in the COVID-19 cases in Metro Manila. Furthermore, the cases in the rest of Luzon and Visayas also increased. Only Mindanao maintained a “low plateau” in Coronavirus cases.

According to Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire, the positivity rate in the National Capital Region grew by 4.4 percent in the past 7 days. The national positivity rate increased by 3.1 percent. Meanwhile, the healthcare utilization rate across the nation remained at low risk.

DOH previously said that the alert level may change in case the healthcare utilization rate reaches “moderate risk”. More updates may be posted soon.
