However, only a few days left before the inauguration of the incoming president, there was still no announcement regarding the incoming chief of the Department of Agriculture.

Recently, president-elect Bongbong Marcos announced that he will head the Department of Agriculture for the meantime when he assumes office on June 30. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the incoming president cited the “severe” problem in Philippine agriculture as the reason behind his decision to head the department.

“At least for now and at least until we can reorganize the Department of Agriculture in the way that will make it ready for the next years to come,” Marcos Jr. said.

According to the incoming president, he will bring the department back to the basics and rebuild the value chain of agriculture. He stressed that a lot must be changed and there are a lot of offices that are not functional anymore and needs to be re-tooled for the post-pandemic.

Incoming president Bongbong Marcos stressed the need for agility in responding to the problems. He stressed that agriculture is a “critical and foundational part” of the development of the country’s economy.
