PNP Denies Close Ties Between Danao & Hit-and-Run Suspect’s Family

No Close Ties Between Danao and Hit-and-Run Suspect’s Family, According to PNP

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has denied the alleged close ties between OIC Danao and the hit-and-run suspect’s family.

On Friday (June 17, 2022), PNP clarified that the officer-in-charge, Police Lieutenant General Vicente Danao Jr. does not personally know the family of the viral hit-and-run suspect in Mandaluyong City.

PNP spokesperson Police Colonel Jean Fajardo refers to the family of Jose Antonio Sanvicente who was the alleged driver of the SUV that ran over the security guard Christian Floralde mandating the traffic during that time.

“As far as we know, hindi ito personal na kilala ng ating officer-in-charge,” Danao said.

The SUV driver appeared and attended a press conference in Camp Crame with his family to give their side of the story after more than a week after the incident. The suspect’s parents sought contact with Danao through intermediaries, according to Fajardo.

“Ito pong tatay o mga magulang ang nag-initiate, naghanap ng kakilala na puwede po nilang makausap at makarating kay chief PNP o OIC,” Fajardo said.

Fajardo said that Danao personally met the Sanvicentes for the first time during the June 15 press conference. PNP also receives criticism for allegedly giving VIP treatment to the suspect’s family.

The PNP official explained that the police authorities have no legal basis to arrest Sanvicente because there is no arrest warrant for the suspect. PNP is still waiting for an arrest warrant to have a legal basis to take the culprit into custody.

Frustrated murder and abandonment of one’s own victim charges have been filed against Sanvicente.
