DOH on Placing Metro Manila under Alert Level 2: “Possible”

DOH Speaks on Possibility of Placing Metro Manila under Alert Level 2

DOH – The Department of Health said that it is always possible to place Metro Manila under Alert Level 2 depending on the cases.

Several countries have yet to fully recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic cost millions of lives across the globe, dragged the economies of several nations down, and shut down businesses and made financial struggles felt in several households.

In the Philippines, all areas remain under restrictions for more than two (2) years now. Despite the low cases of COVID-19 in most areas in the country, the Department of Health (DOH) continues to remind the public that the pandemic is not over and there are still threats of the virus.

Previously, amid the easing of the restrictions in several countries, the World Health Organization (WHO) reminded nations that the pandemic is not over anywhere if it is not over everywhere thus everyone must not be complacent.

In PH, most areas including Metro Manila are under Alert Level 1, the loosest community quarantine measure, for several weeks now following the decrease in the COVID-19 cases. With regards to the possibility of placing the capital region under Alert Level 2, DOH said that it is always a possibility.

According to Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire, there is always the possibility that stricter community quarantine measures will be implemented if the increase in the COVID-19 cases leads to a significant surge. She stressed that the people must understand that were are learning to live with the virus thus mild and asymptomatic cases must be acceptable to the population.

Based on the report, the DOH Undersecretary stressed that what is important is that the severe and critical cases don’t make a significant spike and there are no problems in the hospitals. According to her, the measure may be escalated to Alert Level 2 if the COVID-19 cases and admissions in the hospitals continue to increase.
