Vicente Manansala Awards – Some Achievements Of The Famous Painter

Here are some Vicente Manansala awards and his famous works.

VICENTE MANANSALA AWARDS – There are some of the awards received by Vicente Manansala, a very famous painter.

Perfecto Q. Manansala and Engracia Silva’s son Vicente Manansala was proclaimed national artist in 1982 in painting. He went to the University of the Philippines School of Fine Arts in 1926 and graduated in 1930. He also studied and trained at the Ecole de Beaux Arts in Montreal, Canada, in the USA, and in France. He also trained at the Otis School of Drawing.

One of his most famous paintings is Madonna of the Slums, 1950. This art reflects the poverty in postwar Manila. Among his most-used subjects included jeepneys, barong-barong, cockfighters, families gathering for a meal, and Quiapo vendors.

With his exemplary contributions, here are a few recognitions he has received:

  • Republic Cultural Heritage Award in 1963
  • Patnubay ng Sining at Kalinangan Award from the City of Manila in 1970
  • proclaimed National Artist in Painting in 1982
