DOF’s Proposal to Impose Additional Tax to Pay PH Debt Opposed by Filipino Workers

The Filipino workers have expressed their opposition to DOF’s proposal to impose an additional tax to pay the Philippines’ debt.

A lot of Pinoy laborers in the country have expressed their opposition to the Department of Finance’s proposal to impose an additional tax to pay the external debt of the Philippines. The Trade Union Congress of the Philippines also opposed the proposal.

TUCP official Alan Tanjusay disagrees with the Finance Department’s proposal due to the continuous spike in prices of basic commodities as an effect of the Russia-Ukraine war. He also said that inflation severely affects the minimum wage earners.

Tanjunsay said that an employee who is earning P13, 000 per month can take home only P10, 000 due to the surging prices of basic commodities and services. He also urged the government not to pose additional taxes on minimum-wage earners and less-fortunate Filipinos.

“Dahil nga napakataas ng mga bilihin at halaga ng mga serbisyo, yung take home pay na, halimbawa ang sahod niya ay nasa P13,000 ano, ang kanyang take home ay nasa P10,000 na lamang kada buwan,” the official added.

The TUCP executive also suggested that additional taxes must be focused on those who were n the middle class and not on minimum-wage earners and informal workers.

Tanjunsay claimed.
