The local authorities informed the residents to implement the 4S strategy; “search and destroy breeding sites, self-protection, seek early consultation, and say yes to fogging”. The strategy aims to prevent the spread of the mosquito-borne disease.

The increasing dengue cases have been first recorded in Central Visayas and other parts of the country. Dengue cases are expected to increase as the rainy season starts last week.

Meanwhile, Bacolod City and Negros Occidental recorded nine deaths this year due to the disease. According to Negros Occidental provincial health officer Ernell Tumimbang said that the province is already on alert after the number of cases hits 633.

Tumimbang said that the provincial health office had a meeting with the local government units in the region to locate the breeding ground of mosquitoes to prevent the spike in dengue cases.
