Mike Tyson to Face No Charges After Punching Fellow Plane Passenger

Former Boxing Champion Mike Tyson Will Not Face Charges After Punching Incident

Former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson will face no charges after punching his fellow plane passenger, according to a US prosecutor in California.

Last month, the former boxing champion reportedly punched a male passenger for provoking him inside the plane, which is set to fly out of San Francisco. The boxer sent series of punches to the guy while leaning over the back of his seat.  The victim suffered from bleeding and bruises during the confrontation.

According to the boxer’s representative, Tyson was initially friendly to the passenger during the flight but the latter wouldn’t stop provoking him and even threw a water bottle at him before the incident.

On Tuesday (May 10, 2022), San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said that the ex-boxing champion will not face criminal charges over the plane fracas that happened on April 20. San Francisco Police Department based the decision on various videos collected by the authorities.

San Francisco Police Department and the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office watched the collected videos and saw the circumstances before and during the confrontation. The authorities said that the victim’s actions lead up to the incident.

“We have reviewed the police reports of the San Francisco Police Department and the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office and have viewed the various videos collected by law enforcement from others on the airplane, Our decision is that we will not file any charges against Mr. Tyson based on the circumstances surrounding the confrontation,” Wagstaffe said.
