Catholic Clergy Members Announce Support for Leni-Kiko

Members of Catholic Clergy Back Vice Pres. Leni Robredo, Sen. Kiko Pangilinan

CATHOLIC CLERGY – More than a thousand members of Clergy for the Moral Choice (CMC) endorse the Leni-Kiko tandem.

Only four (4) days are left before the May 2022 Elections. Both local and national polls are set to take place on May 9 and the latter includes the election for president and vice president. Among the candidates are running-mates Vice Pres. Leni Robredo and Sen. Kiko Pangilinan.

Vice Pres. Robredo is running as an independent candidate in the upcoming poll. She tapped Sen. Pangilinan to be her running-mate in the election. He is the candidate of the Liberal Party for vice president.

A lot of groups, institutions, businesses, companies, incumbent and former government officials, and private individuals endorse the Leni-Kiko tandem. In fact, many private volunteers and actors and actresses did a house-to-house campaign for the Vice President and the Senator.

Recently, several members of the Catholic Clergy also announced their support for the Leni-Kiko tandem. The Clergy for the Moral Choice (CMC) has more than 1,400 members.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, in a statement, the members of the Catholic clergy that announced their support for the Leni-Kiko tandem said that the two (2) candidates have both shown in their public and private lives “the qualities of true shepherds who are ready to dedicate their lives for the flock, and who would not run away from, avoid, or hide from the challenges that come with public service”.

Prior to the members of CMC announcing their support for Vice Pres. Robredo and Sen. Pangilinan, several religious leaders in the Catholic church have also voiced their support for the tandem. While the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) is not officially endorsing candidates during the election, CBCP previously clarified that there are no laws preventing the church leaders from speaking the truth. The statement came amid some people criticizing the Catholic church.
