Active and Passive Voice – Some Examples Of Active and Passive Voice

Here are some examples of passive and active voice and what’s the difference between the two.

ACTIVE AND PASSIVE VOICE – A sentence can be written in two tones – active and passive – and here are some examples.

One’s writing can be interpreted in two tones and it is largely determined by how it is structured. There’s no better one between the two because the usage would depend. Whether you write actively or passively, it still depends on the type of your writing. The voice refers to the form of verb whether the subject is the one performing the action or the one receiving the action.

Active and Passive Voice

In the active voice, the subject performs the action and the subject is always a noun or a pronoun. This tone has a direct and clear tone.

As for the passive voice, here are the circumstances and some good reasons to use this:

  • To emphasize the action rather than the actor
  • To keep the subject and focus consistent throughout a passage
  • To be tactful by not naming the actor
  • To describe a condition in which the actor is unknown or unimportant
  • To create an authoritative tone

See an example sentence below:

ACTIVE: The kids have cleaned the kitchen.

PASSIVE: The kitchen has been cleaned.

As you can see, the structures of the two sentences are different but the components are just the same. In the sentence above, the active voice is about what the people do, and in the passive, it’s about what happens to the people.

Here are some examples:
