WILFRIDO NOLLEDO – Playwright and fiction writer Wilfrido D. Nolledo has this life story, notable works, and achievements.

Fictionist, playwright, and screenwriter Wilfrido Nolledo passed away in 2004 at the age of 71 in Los Angeles, California due to pancreatic cancer. The playwright and fiction writer was born on January 19, 1933, in Manila.

He finished his high school at National University and finished BA in Literature at the University of Santo Tomas. As a writer, he worked in This Week, Sunday Times Magazine, and at the Ministry of Health. He also served as a staff member of the Philippines Free Press, contributing editor for Focus Philippines, and editorial assistant for Observer and Newstime.

Here are some of his achievements:

  • National Cultural Award for Drama from the City of Manila
  • National Award for Drama from the Writers’ Union of the Philippines
  • Roman Grand Prize for Novel
  • first prize in the Marian Year Literary Contest at the UST
  • Palanca awards
  • Bedan of the Century trophy for lifetime achievement in literature from San Beda University in 2001

  • Adios, Ossimandias
  • Rice Wine
  • Island of the Heart
  • Legend of the Filipino Guitar
  • Amour Impossible
  • Turn Red the Sea
  • Flores para los muertos (Flowers for the Dead)
  • Dulce estranjero
  • But for the Lovers
  • Sangria Tomorrow
  • Via con Virgo

His two novels “Sangria Tomorrow” and “Vaya con Virgo” both won Palanca grand prize in 1981 and 1984.
