JOEY AYALA LITERARY WORKS – These are just some of the famous literary works and songs of singer-songwriter Joey Ayala.

Among the most-loved music icon in the Philippines is Joey Ayala who is José Íñigo Homer Lacambra Ayala in real life. He was a former chairman of the music committee of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts. His unique music style includes the use of ethnic instruments in modern pop music.

One of his famous songs is Karaniwang Tao and was among the founders of the “Bagong Lumad” band. Ayala was born on June 1, 1956, in Bukidnon. He finished a degree in AB Economics at the Ateneo de Davao.

As a singer and songwriter, some of his awards and achievements are:

  •  Jaycees Ten Outstanding Young Men in the Philippines (1990)
  • Metropop Song Festival grand prize for composing a song for The Concert King Martin Nievera
  • Datu Bago Award 
  • Philippine Popular Music Festival as composer and interpreter of the song “Papel” (2013)
  • KATHA Music Awards

He also received Gawad ng Pagkilala ng Komisyon sa Wikang Pilipino for creating music that values our language. Also, through his music, we can clearly fathom his deep affection for nature and the environment. Many of his songs spoke of environmental awareness, advocating the protection of the environment, and protecting the natural resources.

Besides being a great singer, he is also a great writer. He writes short stories and his talent in writing made him earn recognitions and awards like the Philippines Free Press Annual Literary Award and The Carlos Palanca Award for Literature from Carlos Palanca Memorial Foundation. Most of his contributions to Philippine literature are his songs.
