Among the most-loved music icon in the Philippines is Joey Ayala who is José Íñigo Homer Lacambra Ayala in real life. He was a former chairman of the music committee of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts. His unique music style includes the use of ethnic instruments in modern pop music.

One of his famous songs is Karaniwang Tao and was among the founders of the “Bagong Lumad” band. Ayala was born on June 1, 1956, in Bukidnon. He finished a degree in AB Economics at the Ateneo de Davao.

Besides being a great singer, he is also a great writer. He writes short stories and his talent in writing made him earn recognitions and awards like the Philippines Free Press Annual Literary Award and The Carlos Palanca Award for Literature from Carlos Palanca Memorial Foundation.
