Will Smith Breaks Silence About Chris Rock, Apologizes In Lengthy IG Statement

WILL SMITH – Actor Will Smith broke his silence after slapping stand-up comedian Chris Rock at the 2022 OSCARS.

American actor Will Smith and presenter Chris Rock had an altercation during the 2022 OSCAR ceremony on Sunday, March 27. The stand-up comedian appeared on stage to present the award for best documentary features and made a joke about the actor’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith.

Rock joked about Jada’s hairstyle that referenced the movie “G.I Jane” in which actress Demi Moore shaved her head. After Rock joked that he was looking forward to a sequel to that movie, Smith went on stage and struck Rock on the face. Rock quipped, “Wow, Will Smith just smacked the s—t out of me!”

Will Smith returned to his seat and shouted at Rock, “Keep my wife’s name out of your f**king mouth!” Jada is currently styling a balk look due to alopecia. The National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases describe alopecia as “a disease that happens when the immune system attacks hair follicles and causes hair loss.”

Later that evening, the actor apologized for his outburst while accepting his award. “I want to apologize to the Academy, I want to apologize to all my fellow nominees. This is a beautiful moment and I’m not crying for winning an award, it’s not about winning an award for me,” he said.

A day after he slapped Chris Rock, Will Smith issued a public apology to the stand-up comedian. He said he was out of line following his actions which were spurred by a joke.
