Did this candidate of the Miss Universe Philippines 2022 pageant just fake her hair and dark skin color?
MISS UNIVERSE PHILIPPINES 2022 – Shaira Aliyah Diaz is allegedly blackfishing by faking her curl hair and making her skin color darker.
“Blackfishing” is the term used to describe people who are pretending to be black or mixed race. The people who do this imitate the hairstyling and makeup to make their physical appearance similar to black people. Accordingly, they would want to do this for the “cool part” of it and not entirely recognize the other unfortunate part of it such as racism and discrimination.
And vlogger Davonna Finley who is also known as “The Sovereign” on YouTube noticed that one of the candidates in the Miss Universe PH 2022 namely Shaira Aliyah Diaz was accordingly “blackfishing”. The Sovereign said that Diaz has fake her and fake skin color.
Being black herself, she confidently discussed how come her hair is fake. According to her, the candidate used a “two to three-year-old half wig” to have a hairstyle similar to an Afro-American. She expressed, “The blending of the two different textures ‘coz your own hair is a different texture from your own hair that you have is completely messing up. And I’m a black woman. One thing we do know is hair. The blending ain’t working.“
She added that the shades of her natural hair and her fake hair did not match. Also, the matting drove her nuts. Besides questioning her hair, she also criticized her skin color.
The Sovereign said in her video, “I’m not gonna say what you and me both know, but I know what you’re doing and what you’re trying to go for right here. We both know what you’re trying to do. It’s not working. Stop that. Stop it.”
Shaira is among the Top 50 candidates of this year’s pageant. She is carrying the name of her local, San Pablo, Laguna. On her social media, she has always been open about her struggles with her tan skin color.
