Pinoy Student Creates DIY Windmill to Produce Electricity Using Ceiling Fan

A Pinoy student created a DIY windmill to produce electricity using ceiling fan to light up their home after Typhoon Odette damaged the power line.

The 16-year-old student named Kyle Manlimos is among the victims of Typhoon Odette in Southern Leyte last December 2021. Odette causes damage to numerous properties in the province and shut down the power line.

Manlimos has decided to create an improvised wind turbine using an old ceiling fan to produce electricity. He got the idea of making DIY windmill after learning it from their science subject.

The Grade 8 student spent three days making his DIY wind turbine and get a successful result. He also shared his knowledge on how to create the improvised windmill to help his neighbors.

“Naisipan ko ito after Bagyong Odette. Hanggang ngayon walang kuryente yung bayan namin. Nagka-idea ako na gumawa ng isang DIY windmill para po magkailaw at may magamit kami,” Manlimos said.

According to Herlee Quizzagan, the DIY windmill of Manlimos was able to produce electricity because it was created similar to regular windmills. The wind flows over the blades connected to a drive shaft that turns an electric generator, which produces electricity.

“Pangarap kop o ‘yun na maging engineer kasi since day 1, nangarap na ako maging engineer para makatulong sa pamilya,” Manlimos said.
