METRO MANILA MAYORS – The local chief executives propose to place the capital region under Alert Level 1 starting March 1.

The COVID-19 pandemic is undeniably one of the toughest battles that the Philippines is still fighting against. It cost the lives of a lot of people in the country and millions of individuals across the globe. It rocked healthcare systems that led to the shutting down of some.

In the Philippines, the vaccination program continues as the country thrives to achieve population protection against the virus. The vaccination is now open for eligible adults. Some individuals have already received their booster shots to strengthen their protection against the virus.

The PH government and the health authorities have also started vaccinating kids aged 5-11. Pfizer came up with a vaccine concentration for the said age group.

The Philippines is fighting the COVID-19 pandemic for more than two (2) years now. In January, the whole Metro Manila was placed under Alert Level 3 following the surge in the cases after the holiday season. The capital region remained under the said alert level for a month.

The cases dropped and the Department of Health (DOH) has confirmed that it has peaked in the capital region. The authorities eased the status to Alert Level 2 which is set until February. Recently, the Metro Manila Mayors met to discuss the possible alert level status in the capital region starting March 1.

It was the first time for the Metro Manila mayors to meet face-to-face after two (2) years. In their previous meetings, they do it virtually amid the pandemic. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the local chief executives agreed to propose placing the capital region under Alert Level 1.

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) General Manager Romando Artes said that a resolution bearing the unanimous decision of the mayors was passed. It means they are proposing the Alert Level 1 status to the IATF for the capital region starting March 1. According to him, the mayors are prepared to implement the loosest lockdown level citing that the region is “qualified” to be under it.

As of this writing, Malacañang has yet to issue regarding the next quarantine measure in Metro Manila. More updates may be posted soon.
