Transport Groups Plead for P1 Fare Hike Due to Consecutive Oil Price Hike

Transport Groups Ask for P1 Fare Increase

FARE INCREASE – Several transport groups are pleading for P1 fare hike due to the consecutive oil price hike.

Various transport groups in the country were seeking P1 fare increase due to the series of pump price hike over last few weeks. The hike can help the jeepney drivers a lot especially during this time of pandemic.

The groups want to raise the P9 fare to P10 to help the drivers struggling with their daily income. Unfortunately, it would contribute to the burden of Filipino commuters who were already struggling with their finances due to the health crisis.

However, many Filipinos can understand the fare hike due to consecutive weeks of pump price increase but some of our countrymen opposed the proposed fare increase. Barkers were also pleading for roll on prices of petroleum products.

“Dapat hindi na muna nila itaas kasi alam naman nila yung mga mahihirap ngayon na nawalan ng trabaho at nakapagtrabaho pa lang ho ngayon,” passenger Serena Ramo said.

Previously, LTRFB told the public that there is a slim chance of fare hike approved during this pandemic. The agency said that they will find a way like giving cash assistance or fuel subsidy for the drivers.

The consecutive pump price hikes over the past few months contributes to the daily burden of Filipino people especially to those who were using public vehicles for a living and to individuals using private vehicles to reach their point of destination.
