Did you know animals can cause erosion?
IN CASE YOU DIDN’T KNOW – Animals can also cause erosion in several ways.
Mother nature has its own way of keeping itself in place.
Apparently, there are certain phenomena that cannot be avoided since that’s how nature works.
There are a series of events happening from time to time that involves nature. Among those are the weather, fog, thunder, tornadoes and to name a few.
Aside from the aforementioned natural phenomenon, there’s also a unique event wherein animals might be held accountable.
Well, in case you didn’t know, some animals have something to do with erosion.
But first, let’s define this term.
Erosion is the gradual wearing away of land surface materials, especially rocks, sediments, and soils, brought by water, wind, and even animals.
Speaking of animals, what do you think is their contribution to erosion?
Animals can cause erosion in several ways:
Number one, there are animals that weather rocks by scraping them as they feed.
These kinds of animals are called Scrapers. They consume films of organic material that develop upon hard substrata in streams and lakes.
Aside from that, other animals change the surface of the Earth by burrowing wherein animals make holes or tunnels, especially animals that can directly dig into the soil such as rodents, squirrels, groundhogs, etc.
Another way animals can cause erosion is thru overgrazing. This occurs when too many animals graze the same land area since hooves of animals pull plants out by their roots. As a result, vegetation in a pasture is somehow depleted. Later, it would end in erosion.
