Julius Babao shared the story behind his network transfer
Seasoned journalist Julius Babao revealed that this is the sign that prompted him to decide to transfer to TV5 after working with ABS-CBN for 28 years.
Julius is one of the well-respected news and current affairs personalities of the Kapamilya network. However, he shocked many viewers of ABS-CBN when he announced that he will be leaving his home network for almost three decades.
Later on, it was announced that he is now part of the Kapatid network. In line with this, ABS-CBN released an official statement showing support for his decision.
In a recent interview with The Philippine Star, Julius Babao shared that deciding to transfer did not happen with just a click of a finger. It was a process, he said. The seasoned journalist said that his wife Christine Babao, who is now part of One PH TV, the sister station of TV5, did not influence him.
Julius stressed that it was really his decision because he needed change. As a media person, he wanted to explore other opportunities and the things that he can still do. The negotiation between him and TV5 did not happen overnight as well.
His conversations with TV5 boss Luchi Cruz-Valdes lasted for a month. While waiting for the result from the other side, Julius and his family prayed for it. Then, he asked for a sign. “So, habang nag-uusap kami ni Luchi, it took awhile and there were times na weeks passed na walang kahit anong info from Luchi or anyone from TV5. If that sign never came, maybe this wasn’t the time to move. Ganun lang talaga. Parang I was very open to anything that could happen,” he shared.
After a long time of waiting, Julius Babao finally got the sign that he was asking. “Then one day, after many, many weeks, nakatanggap ako ng text from Luchi. Sabi niya, ‘Are you still interested in joining us?’ Ayun na: This is the sign that I’ve been waiting for. Very clear,” he said.
Julius replaced Raffy Tulfo in the primetime newscast Frontline Pilipinas. He is also looking forward to having a chance to do a public service-oriented program like Mission Possible, the one he had in ABS-CBN.
