Eventually Meaning, How To Use “Eventually” In A Sentence

The meaning of eventually and how to use it in a sentence properly.

EVENTUALLY MEANING – This is the definition of “eventually” and some tips on how to properly use “eventually” in sentence construction.

Some words just really do give us confusion on what it means and their proper usage in a sentence. As such, one example is the word “eventually”. The word “eventually” is an adverb that means “at an unspecified later time” or “in the end” according to Merriam-Webster Dictionary.

Finally, someday, sometime, sooner or later, ultimately, and yet are just some of its synonyms. “Eventually” is used to mean “in the end” usually especially in cases where a long time, lots of efforts, or problems have been involved. However, there are also instances where this word is taken for granted and not used correctly in a sentence.

For example:

“Eventually, they might have dinner later, what do you think?”

In that sentence, it’s a mistake to use it. The idea of the whole sentence is better expressed when “Maybe”, “Potentially” or “Possibly,” or “If you want” is used instead of “eventually”.

Correct sentence is: “Maybe they’ll have dinner later, what do you think?” or “They might have dinner together, possibly. What do you think?”

“Eventually” is not use to express the idea of “something that might be a possibility” but to mean “sometime in the future” or “sooner or later”.

Here are some sample sentences with the correct usage:

  1. This new company that eventually monopolized the entire milk tea industry is doing something illegal.
  2. The kidnappers eventually surrendered themselves to the authority.
  3. Your child will grow up eventually and lead her own life as an independent adult.
  4. Eventually, after a big fight, he backed down and apologized.
  5. Just keep trying and you’ll find a job eventually – the one that suits your passion.
