If you’re a fan of the movie Pirates of the Caribbean, I’m pretty sure you exactly know who is Davy Jones.

Jones is one of the characters in the hit movie starring Johnny Depp also known as Capt. Jack Sparrow.

Jones is a hideous humanoid sea monster, with an octopus face, a tentacles beard, a claw of crab as a hand, and a giant crab leg.

Speaking of octopus, did you know that this sea animal has 9 brains and 3 hearts?

Believe it or not but this soft-bodied sea creature has approximately 9 brains and 3 hearts.

How come?

Well, an octopus has 9 brains thanks to his 8 arms equipped with a mini-brain each that acts independently. Of course, it has a central brain.

The central brain is a doughnut shape that forms a ring around the esophagus, so when an octopus swallows food, it must “pass-through” the brain.

The mini-brains on the other hand independently control each arm unlike humans, who only have one brain that guides and controls each movement of the arm.

Aside from having 9 brains, an octopus also has three (3) hearts. The two pump blood to the gills and a larger heart circulates blood to the rest of the body.
