Twitter users are making hashtag “Rappler Fake News” trend
The Rappler Fake News hashtag trended on Twitter on Wednesday afternoon, January 19, because of this reason.
Rappler, the popular social media news site in the Philippines, went through criticisms several times already. Its CEO, Maria Ressa, faced tax evasion cases, and President Rodrigo Duterte is not a big fan.
There was also an instance when Wowowin host Willie Revillame slammed Rappler reporter Pia Ranada for her “negative” write-up. October last year, netizens accused the news site of manipulating its presidential survey which showed that Vice President Leni Robredo got the highest ratings.
With this, presidential aspirant Bongbong Marcos told his supporters to give Rappler a chance “to find honesty in their heart.”
Just recently, netizens once again attacked the social media news site as they made the hashtag “Rappler Fake News” trend on Twitter. Apparently, this is because of the recent article that Rappler published with the title: “Marcos network tries to take over Twitter with freshly-made accounts”
In the article that was written by Gaby Baizas, Pauline Macaraeg, and Dylan Salcedo, it was stated that BBM supporters have created new accounts on Twitter and revived the old ones in order to “dominate conversations on the platform.”
Rappler also cited that supporters of the former Senator “adopted the practice of following each other on Twitter.” The news site said that the supporters did this so that accounts with a smaller number of followers will “gain bigger audience”.
This did not sit well with the supporters of Bongbong Marcos and they tried to fire back at the social media news site by making “Rappler Fake News” a trending topic.
Here are some of the tweets with the said hashtag.
