Public Warned by Health Experts Against Excessive Consumption of Vitamins
The health experts warned the Filipino people regarding the over dosage of vitamin amid surging cases of COVID-19.
Last week, several parts of the country suffered from tight supply of Paracetamol brands such as Biogesic, Decolgen, Bioflu, Decolgen, Neozep, Symdex, Tuseran, Solmux and other medicines.
The supply shortage occurs after the COVID-19 Omicron variant has entered the Philippines and due to increase of people experiencing common diseases after the Christmas Season.
Philippine College of Physicians Doctor Maricar Limpin warned the public regarding the excessive intake of vitamins. Many people were taking a lot of vitamins and water to prevent common illness such as cold, flu and fever.
Limpin explained that taking vitamin C everyday is good but excessive intake could pose risk to the health. The doctor said that 500 mg of vitamin C is good enough but those who have sickness can take 1000 mg.
The doctor said that vitamin C can help the body boost the immune system but Zinc is also needed in order to protect the total health. Zinc can also assist our healing process.
“Para sa adults, ang maximum ay 2000 mg per day, so ‘yung dalawang beses sa isang araw hindi pa ‘yun ang maximum. Pero pag sumosobra rin ang vitamin C, masakit ‘yan sa tiyan, Yun ‘yung madalas na binibigay namin kasi nakakatulong para maproteksiyunan ang immune system natin. Importante ito habang tayo ay nagpapagaling, sa healing process, importante ang zinc,” Limpin said.
The health expert also warned the public for excessive intake of Paracetamol. She claimed that over dosage of Paracetamol can damage the liver and the organ system.
