‘Heneral Luna’ is indeed a game-changer for the acting career of John Arcilla
Award-winning actor John Arcilla shared the reaction of young viewers who watched his historical film Heneral Luna.
John is one of the fortunate actors in the Philippines who had the opportunity to play the role of real-life Filipino heroes. In 2015, he starred in the film depicting the life of General Antonio Luna and it was a big hit.
The audience from different age brackets embraced the movie and this is something really memorable for John. Based on the article in The Philippine Star, the actor considers Heneral Luna as one of the best films he did that embodied his requirement when he started his acting career – entertaining and enlightening.
“It’s historical but at the same time, it’s entertaining for everyone. In fact, it was appreciated from A-Z, from the tricycle drivers to the elite people, and that’s what I really want, yung talagang maintindihan ng lahat at ma-appreciate ng lahat,” John Arcilla said.
He also shared that even though kids would still call him “Heneral Luna”. “And even the college professors can appreciate the film as exciting, the way 10-year-old students approached me about how they appreciated the film. Sana laging ganun yung magiging appeal ng pelikula natin,” he added.
It is also an important thing for John to know to whom the project really wants to appeal. If he does not know who his target audience is, for him, it is like just helping them to be a stupid audience.
As they say, movies and any form of entertainment are a form of escape. If John Arcilla does not serve the proper audience that he should serve and if the audience is the escapist, then, he is not liberating them.
Meanwhile, John’s most recent successful movie is A Hard Day with Kapuso Primetime King Dingdong Dantes. The action-thriller film was one of the entries in the Metro Manila Film Festival 2021.
